ABOUT DENA AND HER WORK

About Dena

I began weaving in 1986, captivated by the threads, the colors, the interactions between warp and weft. Initially I participated in many craft fairs and sold my work in high-end galleries around New England.

In 2008, I decided to pursue my dream of starting a weaving school and purchased the old Putney Vermont High School building.

The combination of teaching and running my school, with weaving and selling my own handwovens is perfect. My students and I learn from each other and grow together.

Each day I feel blessed to be in Putney, teaching, learning, and weaving.

About My Handwovens

My primary line of work are wearables; shawls to drape around your body, luxurious scarves to keep you cozy, handwoven hats lined in polar fleece to keep you warm through the cold winters.

I also offer a line of lighter weight tencel scarves, and tencel/bamboo shawls whose colors move and dance with the light.

Most recently I have been doing a lot of experimentation in silk, alpaca, and wool. I love the endless world of color available and work in many different color ranges, making colors sing, and creating pieces that are visually stunning and luxuriously soft.

Each piece is created by hand, thread by thread, on a loom in my beautiful studio in Putney, Vermont.

Where To Buy My Handwovens

My work is sold at craft shows around New England, by appointment in the studio, and online

Feel free to call me with a special request.

Dreamweaving Custom Pieces

There is a deeply spiritual component to my weaving.

I especially enjoy creating pieces to mark significant events and healings in peoples lives—whether it be a wedding blanket, created from ribbons that have written blessings on them, healing blankets, a tallis for a bar or bat mitzvahs, a wedding canopy, or a special baby blanket.

These pieces are one of a kind. Call me or e-mail me to talk more about this aspect of my work and how it might fit into your life.

“Weaving has come as a gift to me. Somewhere deep down, I have always been a weaver. The feeling of threads running through my fingers, the motion of the shuttle going back and forth are in my body, found in the way that my body will find a move in dance.

The process of learning to weave felt like rediscovering something I knew a long, long time ago.”

Learn TO WEAVE

In 2008, I started Vermont Weaving School. I have been blessed to have worked with hundreds of weavers at all levels of the process. I greatly enjoy teaching and find that it has helped my creativity soar.

In 2020, I created Vermont Weaving Supplies, an online weaving store, and in 2021, we launched Vermont Weaving Clubs, a subscription weaving kit that includes yarn, a detailed pattern, and teacher support via Zoom.

Come and open yourself up to the exploration and let’s see where it goes.
